Game #2 RoboCop: Rogue City

I love watching movies. Some days I want to watch a high-intense drama and other times I just want to see a dumb action movie. I do have a place in my heart for 80s movies, and RoboCop is one of those movies. The first movie came out in 1987, directed by Paul Verhoeven and starring Peter Weller. The movie is about a cop named Alex Murphy who gets murdered by a gang and is revived as a cyborg, now known as RoboCop. The movie still holds up today since it deals with the topic of a cyborg trying to regain his humanity and satirizes corporate greed.

The game came out in 2023 and was developed by Teyon. It is set between the second and third film, where RoboCop is seen malfunctioning on live TV when trying to take down a gang. To monitor his progress, a monitoring chip is installed in his head to evaluate his performance. While dealing with this, a new threat is rising in the streets of Detroit, a new gang leader known as the “New Guy”.

The first thing I have to say about this game is that this is soooooo much fun. The presentation and ’80s tone make this game feel closer to the movies than other past games. The game is a first-person shooter where you use different weapons like 9mm and AK-47, while also doing melee attacks or just grabbing a TV and chucking it at someone’s head. While you are not just blasting at bad guys, there are also plenty of side quests, like issuing parking tickets or solving murder investigations. Completing these side quests gives you experience points that can be used to upgrade armor, detection, and new melee moves.

Overall, this game definitely scratched this itch when it came to looking for a fun arcade shooter that can be played in short bursts. Play this game when you get the chance.

Game #1 Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven

The first game in the list is Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. It’s a 3D remake of a role-playing SNES game from 1993. You play the role of an emperor or empress trying to protect the kingdom from the Seven, former heroes who have somehow become demons. I have to say, for a game based on the SNES, this game was way ahead of its time, quite impressive. It’s a typical turn-based RPG, but throughout the game, you have to make choices that can affect your kingdom and the other countries. One of the most important choices is choosing a ruler. You are not going to beat the game with the first ruler. In fact, after a few hours, you are suddenly hit with a one-thousand-year-later message and now have to pick the next ruler. The cool thing is that you have the ability to retain all the abilities from past rulers, so it never feels like you are starting from scratch.

Throughout the game, you travel around the country taking on quests to gain money for your treasury or gain new allies, which unlock new classes. Some of these quests force you to make choices that affect the landscape, learning new moves, and the character itself. One choice I had to choose who would be the next king or queen of a neighborhood kingdom, and another where I had to decide to save a town or sacrifice to gain new dark abilities. I love games where you have multiple choices, so this definitely scratches that itch.

Gameplay is pretty unique in itself, where you don’t level up. You battle in a party of five people, and you are able to teach the main character and the party members new abilities as you develop your kingdom. Each member has a set number of life points, and you lose one each time you get knocked out in battle. If you lose them all, you are gone for good. Definitely an interesting concept, adding permadeath and some of the boss battles can be a little challenging. Overall, this was an amazing game, and I’m a little mad at myself that I had this game in my backlog for so long. If you are a fan of turn-based RPGs and want to try something new, check out this game.

A new direction – Ziza’s Quest

I decided to try something new by tackling something different. I realized I have a huge backlog on Steam, 605 games. Yeah, I know. So I’m planning to finish every single game in my backlog. Yes. Every single one. Each week I will try to complete each game in my backlog and I will talk about it here. So come back next week when I take on my first game from my backlog. Stay tuned.
